Green Valley Sampler Birdathon Sunday, April 12th

When I think of Tucson Audubon Society, I see a group of hardworking professionals who build relationships in our community in support of birds and wildlife. We benefit tremendously from having such diverse communities of birds and animals all around us, and I'm so appreciative of the work at TAS to keep these communities safe as well. They give voice to those who otherwise would not have one. I'm hoping you can help these animals during Birdathon by supporting this fine group of individuals making a difference for future generations. I will also send a Birdathon summary with pics and eBird links to all supporters.

On April 12th My Birdathon adventure began at 3:00 AM as I hiked 3.5 miles up the Florida Canyon trail, reaching the thick pine habitats just before daylight. On the way I heard Great Horned, Elf, Whiskered, Screech, Flammulated, and Northern Pygmy Owls, as well as Common Poorwill and Mexican Whip-poor-will. As I left, my day’s list was already at 69 species including Woodhouse’s Scrub Jay, Rufous-capped Warbler, and Virginia’s Warbler.

I also visited Canoa Ranch Conservation Area where I added some waterfowl and sparrows to my list including Grasshopper, Savannah, Vesper, and Brewer’s. A couple Eastern Meadowlarks were singing in the fields mixed in with a bunch of Western types. A Peregrine Falcon swooped in several times creating chaos. I finished my day watching 4 Lesser Nighthawks at dusk, ending with 129 total species on a very good day of birding!

ABOUT Birdathon 2020

..DONATE (PAY NOW)..          ..PLEDGE (PAY LATER)..

Birds have a unique, special, and different meaning to each of us. So, too, is each of our connection with Tucson Audubon Society personal and distinct. During Birdathon, we combine the love of bird watching during spring migration with support for bird conservation.

Birdathoners are birders and social fundraisers, joining together to make a difference for the birds and habitats of Southeast Arizona. Birdathoners continue a tradition that has held strong for over 30 years!

Each Birdathoner's personal network of supporters is what helps makes Birdathon possible.
