With a statewide social distancing order in effect until the end of the month, Birdathon is going to be very different this year. Will we stay in and skip it? No way! But instead of the usual "Scott's Orioles" team effort in the Santa Catalina Mountains, this year team members will bird by themselves and stay close to home. As a team we are hoping we can break the 100 species barrier overall.

Scott Olmstead, birding within a 6-mile radius of home in urban Tucson

Malcolm Chesworth, birding near home in Tubac, including the Santa Cruz River

Carl Englander, birding from his yard in northwest Tucson

Will Russell, birding on foot near home in the northeast Tucson, including Sabino Canyon

Update: Although we missed the usual in-person camaraderie, the day was a success and we tallied an amazing 122 bird species between the four of us by birding independently. Scott: 80, Malcolm: 77, Will: 52, Carl: 28. Of the total of 122, 58 species were unique observations by just one member of the team and only 18 species were seen/heard by all four members of the team.
