Hello! My name is Maia Stark. I am 15, and first fundraised for Tucson Audubon when I was eight years old. I have always loved animals and the outdoors, and have been birding for over half my life now. I care a lot about what is happening to the Earth's wildlife and contributing to organizations like the Tucson Audubon Society is a way to create change before I can even vote. My family now lives in Switzerland, where I will participate in the Birdathon in Tucson Audubon's Birdathon Beyond AZ category. A new habitat with new species will be a fun challenge. My goal this year is to find at least 35 species and raise $2,000. As we are avoiding public transportation and my teammate and my time is limited, we will be breaking up our Birdathon into 3 mornings - totaling 8 hours, to keep it fair! 
Although I'm far from them, I still love the birds of my home. I hope you'll support me in my goal and help Southeast Arizona's birds!

UPDATE: 

Our Birdathon went well! We stayed within our time limit of eight hours but exceeded our goal, with a total of 50 species! The full checklist is below.

The first morning we stayed close to home and saw 28 species, the highlight of which was a Citril Finch which must have been on its way up as they are uncommon on the lower part of the mountain. The second morning we went down 1,500 feet to the valley and bicycled along the river where we saw waterbirds like a Gray heron and Goosander (known as a Common Merganser in the States). We added 15 species to our list there. The third morning (April 25) we drove as high as we could, then hiked the rest of the way up to the tundra-y top of the mountain. Here we saw Black grouse lekking (males dancing and calling) as we hoped, in addition to 6 other alpine species. We also saw a herd of Chamois mountain goats below us!
